TransUnion operates as a credit reporting agency under the Business Practices and Consumer Protection Act (BPCPA). Consumer Protection BC investigated the business practices of TransUnion following six consumer complaints alleging incorrect information on their credit reports which was shared with third parties.

Consumer Protection BC found TransUnion continued to share disputed credit information with third parties that was not the most reliable information available.

TransUnion is ordered to improve how it handles credit information disputes, strengthen internal controls and procedures and provide staff training around the accuracy of information.

Transunion must reimburse $5,000 to Consumer Protection BC for the inspection cost and pay an administrative penalty of $16,500 into the Consumer Advancement Fund.
