Summary:

Canadian Home Improvement Credit Corporation (CHICC) sells and offers financing for household goods and services. These sales are made door-to-door and consumers sign direct sales contracts with the company.

Consumer Protection BC and CHICC reached an agreement, more formally known as an undertaking, after doing an inspection into its business practices. It’s alleged CHICC harassed consumers through its unlicensed collection agent, collected or attempted to collect more money than was owed and did not disclose the total price of the contract.

As part of the agreement, CHICC will refund approximately $113,000 to affected consumers within 90 days, remove all liens or charges created under the contract, cancel certain consumer contracts, cancel future non-complaint contracts when they receive a complaint, and stop financing non-complaint contracts.

CHICC also agrees to reimburse $21,206.74 in inspection fees to Consumer Protection BC.
