SAANICH, BC – February 9, 2026 – Today, the BC Government announced changes to consumer protection laws will come into force August 1, 2026. The new protections ensure consumers can more easily understand and exercise their contract rights. There are also new rules against high-pressure direct sales, known as door-to-door sales, of certain costly household products such as air conditioners and furnaces.

While Consumer Protection BC administers and enforces the law, government is responsible for making changes to the law and setting policy. Consumer Protection BC will ensure businesses and consumers have they information they need ahead of the changes.
