{July 20, 2017} VICTORIA, BC – Consumer Protection BC has issued a compliance order and administrative penalties totaling $2,400 against Sealand Travel Inc., a travel agent based in Richmond BC, for violating BC’s Travel Industry Regulation (TIR). The administrative penalties are broken down as follows:

  • Failing to include in 14 receipts for travel services, the address of the person making the payment, as required under section 12.1(b) of the TIR, an $800.00 administrative penalty;
  • Failing to include in 14 receipts for travel services, the conditions for the reimbursement of any money received, as required under section 12.1(f) of the TIR, an $800.00 administrative penalty; and
  • Failing to include in 14 receipts for travel services, the Licensee’s telephone number and license number, as required under section 12.1(g) of the TIR, an $800.00 administrative penalty.

The business has been ordered to comply with receipt requirements under section 12.1(b)(f)(g) of the TIR, and to reimburse Consumer Protection BC partial costs for the inspection in the amount of $500 within 30 days. All money Consumer Protection BC receives from administrative penalties is deposited into the consumer advancement fund (as required by section 169 of the BPCPA).
