Consumer Protection BC has issued compliance orders against two funeral directors/embalmers, as well as an administrative penalty for one, for:

  • Failing to complete the required education/training, contrary to section 38(1)(b) of the Cremation Interment and Funeral Services Regulation, which requires embalmers to complete the following training every two years once licensed:
    • (b) 6 hours of training in a program of embalming that is approved by the director, if licensed as an embalmer

The two funeral directors/embalmers subject to enforcement action are:

1. Shakeel Azad

2. Robert Ernest Hodgson

Each individual has also been ordered to meet the education and training requirements for the previous two-year period. The order also requires each individual to reimburse Consumer Protection BC for partial costs for the inspections in the amount of $150 within 30 days.

By law, the individuals have 30 days to request a reconsideration of the decision.

All money received from administrative penalties is deposited into the Consumer Advancement Fund (as required by section 169 of the BPCPA).
