Consumer Protection BC has issued a compliance order against Schrader Family Holdings Ltd. (DBA Kamloops Funeral Home), a licensed funeral provider based in Kamloops BC, for:

  • Failing to ensure that a funeral contract executed with a consumer contained the address of the deceased, contrary to section 34(1)(b)(ii) of the Business Practices and Consumer Protection Act (BPCPA)
  • Failing to include the price for each container offered for sale in written information maintained and made available to the public, contrary to section 34(1)(b) of the Cremation, Interment and Funeral Services Regulation (CIFSR)
  • Failing to keep written record of authorization given to perform funeral services, contrary to section 43(1)(e) of the CIFSR

The business has been ordered to reimburse Consumer Protection BC partial inspection costs in the amount of $895 within 30 days. The business has also been ordered to enhance its record keeping and management using prescribed forms. 

By law, the business has 30 days to request a reconsideration of the decision.

All money received from administrative penalties is deposited into the Consumer Advancement Fund (as required by section 169 of the BPCPA).
