In British Columbia, debt collectors, bailiffs and debt repayment agents are required to follow the laws set out in the Business Practices and Consumer Protection Act and the Debt Collection Industry Regulation.

The Act and Regulations set out the laws for the rights and responsibilities of both collectors and those they are contacting to collect money.  It also outlines what debt repayment agents must do when acting for a debtor.

If you have a complaint about the practices of a debt repayment agent, bailiff or debt pooler, Consumer Protection BC may be able assist you.  To learn more about how we can help, please select your topic on the menu bar on the left.
