Trying to return a car?
There is no law that gives consumers the right to return a vehicle. In most cases, if you bought it, it’s yours. In BC, there are some protections and options to help you resolve your issue with your vehicle.
I purchased my vehicle from a licensed dealer
In BC, the Vehicle Sales Authority (VSA) oversees the retail sales of vehicles sold through licensed dealerships. They are an independent, non-profit organization that helps make sure that dealers:
- sell vehicles in a clear and honest manner
- stand behind the representations they make about a vehicle
- do not withhold or give information that would cause you to make an error in judgment about whether to buy the vehicle
- meet strict standards, particularly about disclosures
- contribute to a customer compensation fund in case of eligible claims
If you have a complaint about a vehicle you purchased from a licensed dealership, please contact the Vehicle Sales Authority. You can call them at 604.574.5050 or fill out their complaint form.
I am in a dispute with a vehicle manufacturer
Trouble with a vehicle manufacturer? You may be eligible for help through the Canadian Motor Vehicle Arbitration Plan (CAMVAP). CAMPVAP can assist with disputes where:
- You have a consumer complaint about a vehicle’s alleged defect
OR
- You have an issue with a new vehicle warranty
- Your car is a current model or one of four previous model years
Please note that FCA Canada Ltd. (Fiat, Chrysler, Dodge, Jeep, RAM trucks) does not participate in CAMVAP’s program, therefore claims for FCA will not be accepted. You can visit the CAMVAP website or phone their office toll-free at 1.800.207.0685 for more information.
