Cash Store/Instaloans refund process

Did you take out a payday loan from The Cash Store or Instaloans between November 2009 and March 2012? If you did and were charged a fee for a cash card, commonly called a card activation fee, you may be owed money.

We regulate the payday lending sector in BC. In 2010, we finished an investigation that found that Cash Store and Instaloans had overcharged borrowers for putting the loan money onto a cash card. We ordered them to refund all those borrowers. (Charging fees above a certain total amount isn’t allowed.)

We now manage the refund process and there are still people who haven’t claimed their money.

The information above is only related to payday loans taken out through The Cash Store or Instaloans between November 2009 and March 2012 and if you were charged for a cash card. All other loans or class action suits are unrelated.
