Under Section 3 of the Home Inspector Licensing Regulation, a person must complete an approved educational program as part of the qualification process for a BC home inspector licence. The Regulation requires that any approved program be at least 150 hours of instruction in subject areas that include:
  • Roofing
  • Flashing
  • Chimneys
  • The Exterior System
  • The Structural System
  • The Electrical System
  • The Heating and Cooling Systems
  • The Insulation and Venting Systems
  • The Plumbing System
  • The Interior System
Consumer Protection BC is responsible for approving all educational programs that are part of the qualification process for home inspector licensees. These educational programs must cover all the above noted areas, and must prepare the student to take one of the designated home inspector exams. The approved educational programs under the Home Inspector Licensing Regulation are:

Home Inspection Certificate offered by Douglas College

House Inspector Program offered by BCIT

Home Inspection Training Program- Virtual Classroom offered by Carson Dunlop and Associates Ltd. 

Fundamentals of Home Inspection offered by Western Pacific Property Inspection Institute (WPPII)

ISS - BC Home Inspector Training offered by Inspection Support Services Inc.

Home Inspection Training Program offered by Ashton College

Home Inspection Training offered by Inspect4u

  • Check back regularly as the list of approved educational programs will be listed as soon as they are approved. 
Once an applicant has completed an educational program, and exam, as well as the practical and peer review component of the qualifications process, they must submit all evidence of completion as part of the application package on the licence application forms page.
