Jetsgo Airlines Ceases Operation Print E-mail

{March 11, 2005} VICTORIA The Business Practices and Consumer Protection Authority (BPCPA) is advising consumers that Jetsgo Airlines has ceased operations as of March 11, 2005. As flights have been cancelled, consumers should contact their travel agent to make alternate arrangements.

 If you have booked your trip from a licensed BC travel agency:

Follow the steps outlined below:

  1. If you paid for services with a credit card, contact the credit card company to request that charges be reversed. Briefly state what services were purchased and the reason that they were not received.
  2. If you purchased travel insurance, contact the insurance company to see if it is an eligible loss;
  3. If you paid by cash/debit or cheque, or did not receive compensation from an insurer or credit card company, you may be eligible to receive a refund from the BC Travel Assurance Fund.

The BC Travel Assurance Fund, under the Business Practices and Consumer Protection Act and the BC Travel Industry Regulation, protects both consumers and travel agents licensed in British Columbia in their transactions. The fund is maintained through contributions from licensed travel agencies.

Contact the BPCPA to request a claim form from the website at www.bpcpa.ca, by email at This e-mail address is being protected from spambots. You need JavaScript enabled to view it , or call 1-888-564-9963 or 604-320-1667. Please submit proof of payment with the completed claim form.

The BC Travel Industry Regulation requires that a claimant make reasonable effort to obtain compensation from a credit card company or insurer before making a claim to the fund. As a result, proof of refusal must be provided in writing.

If you booked directly with Jetsgo Airlines and not through a licensed British Columbia travel agent:

There is no provision in the BC Travel Industry Regulation under the Business Practices & Consumer Protection Act for consumers to claim on the Travel Assurance Fund when they have purchased air travel directly with the airline. These consumers should contact their credit card company or insurance company to determine if compensation is available. They should also contact the trustee in bankruptcy as soon as one has been appointed.

For assistance in making alternative arrangements, consumers should go to a licensed BC travel agency.

If you are a travel agent who has purchased inclusive tour charter packages and/or air only from a tour operator/travel wholesaler:

Please contact the appropriate tour operator/travel wholesaler involved to obtain instructions with respect to obtaining a refund or information regarding alternate travel arrangements for consumers in transit, at their destinations or with immediate departures.

The Business Practices and Consumer Protection Authority is a not-for-profit organization which operates at arm's length from government.
