| Review of Travel Regulations to Begin |

{July 23, 2007} VICTORIA, BC – The Ministry of Public Safety and Solicitor General and the Business Practices and Consumer Protection Authority (BPCPA) have announced that they will be jointly undertaking a review of the Travel Industry Regulation under the Business Practices and Consumer Protection Act.
Both the Ministry and Authority recognize the need to modernize the regulation and respond to changes in the travel and tourism industry. The travel industry has already provided valuable comments for changes to aspects of the regulation. The goal is to bring forward recommended changes to the entire regulation that will enhance consumer protection, and be more effective and fair for the travel and tourism industry. The intention is to review issues such as the need for an office location, telecommuting, vacation rental accommodations and compliance with the BC - Alberta Trade, Investment and Labour Mobility Agreement (TILMA). Consultations are expected to be completed by Fall 2007. Stakeholders will be contacted in the near future with Information on how to participate in the consultation process.
