{June 25, 2010} VICTORIA, BC - Consumer Protection BC is committed to improving the coordination of our stakeholder engagement activities and providing recommendations to government regarding enhancements to BC’s consumer protection laws.

Since the implementation of the new travel industry regulations in BC in 2009, we have determined that the issue of licensing accommodation rentals needs to be closely managed.   As such, we have engaged with various groups within the industry to share knowledge, to identify and focus on issues, seek mutual understanding and potentially enable the development of solutions that are responsive to the issues.

Based on these engagement activities, the feedback we have received and our experience administering BC’s travel regulations, we have prepared a Stakeholder Engagement Report which has been submitted to government for consideration.   In this document, we recommend that the Ministry of Public Safety & Solicitor General undertake a limited review of the Travel Industry Regulation under the Business Practices and Consumer Protection Act.

Please click here to read our Stakeholder Engagement Report in full.  The document includes the objectives of our engagement activities, an analysis of the issues as well as our recommendation.

You can view the current travel industry regulation on our website.
