{March 3,2009 } VICTORIA, BC – The Business Practices and Consumer Protection Authority (BPCPA) has released the licensing requirements and is now accepting applications for licences for Home Inspectors operating in British Columbia. “After extensive consultation with, and feedback from the industry and individual Home Inspectors, we have established the criteria and requirements for Home Inspectors to obtain their licence in preparation for the March 31, 2009 effective date,” said Tayt Winnitoy, VP, Operations for the BPCPA. After careful consideration of much of the feedback from individuals directly, franchises, industry partners and others, all Home Inspectors will be required to demonstrate they have the appropriate credentials and to obtain liability insurance in order to qualify for a licence. Home Inspectors will also have to pass a criminal record check and demonstrate good conduct in the industry as part of the licensing requirements. “We’re excited to now be accepting applications and engaging with Home Inspectors directly. We believe licensing will support consumer protection and encourage an open and honest exchange between consumers and Home Inspectors,” commented Winnitoy. On January 30, 2009 the government announced new regulations that will now require Home Inspectors operating in BC to have a licence issued by the BPCPA. Licences are being issued for the commencement date of the Home Inspector Licensing Regulation on March 31 2009.
