{August 5, 2008} VICTORIA, BC – The Business Practices and Consumer Protection Authority (BPCPA) is advising consumers that W.R. Chandler Memorials Ltd., a memorial dealer selling markers, plaques and tombstones operating in Vancouver BC, is no longer in business. The BPCPA was investigating complaints from consumers that they were not receiving the products or services they paid for. A Director’s Compliance Order was recently filed in Supreme Court by the BPCPA instructing W.R. Chandler Memorials to come into compliance with the Business Practices and Consumer Protection Act and refund consumers for products or services not provided. Due to a separate legal action, W.R. Chandler Memorials was dissolved and the Supreme Court has appointed a trustee, MacKay & Company Ltd, to deal with the liquidation of the business. The BPCPA has committed to working with the trustee to ensure that additional consumer complaints are addressed. Consumers who wish to file a new complaint against W.R. Chandler Memorials or inquire about money owed to them by the company should contact the trustee directly at: MacKay & Company Ltd. Please note that it may take some time for the trustee to wind down the business and settle all debts. For more information about the BPCPA and our enforcement powers, please call our Inquiry Centre. |
