Consumer Protection BC issues telemarketing licenses based on the requirements of the Business Practices and Conusmer Protection Act and the Telemarketer Licensing Regulation.

Definitions

A "telemarketer" means a supplier who engages in the business or occupation of initiating contact with a consumer by telephone or facsimile for the purpose of conducting a consumer transaction.

A "consumer transaction" means:

  1. a supply of goods or services or real property by a supplier to a consumer for purposes that are primarily personal, family or household; or
  2. a solicitation, offer, advertisement or promotion by a supplier with respect to a transaction referred to in paragraph (a) and includes a solicitation of a consumer by a supplier for a contribution of money or other property by the consumer.
