PURPOSE: Advisory Groups serve as one of the tools within Consumer Protection BC’s stakeholder engagement program. Established by the Board of Directors of Consumer Protection BC, these volunteer groups identify consumer and industry related issues and potential solutions for consideration by the Consumer Protection BC and provide feedback on matters put forward to the group by Consumer Protection BC. While the legislation administered by Consumer Protection BC generally applies to most businesses in BC, it specifically regulates a number of industries including debt collection, travel services, telemarketing, funeral services, film classification, home inspectors and payday lenders. The Advisory Group members are appointed for a renewable term of up to three years. Members will serve without remuneration but will be reimbursed for appropriate travel expenses incurred in performing their duties, according to rates established for Consumer Protection BC. Unless otherwise scheduled, meetings are usually held in either Burnaby or Victoria. Conference calls are utilized whenever it is more practical to do so. |
