The Business Practices & Consumer Protection Authority (BPCPA) is seeking qualified persons to serve on the Debt Collection Industry Advisory Group (DCIAG).

PURPOSE:   Established by the Board of Directors of the BPCPA, this volunteer group will identify consumer and industry related issues and potential solutions for consideration by the Authority. It will further serve to provide feedback on those matters put forward to the Group for consideration, as required by the Board.

 MEMBERSHIP:   In order to meet the terms of reference set out for the group, as a whole, members will be selected who indicate a willingness to support the Authority’s mandate of consumer protection and offer knowledge, skills and abilities in the following areas: 

• Various segments of the Debt Collection Industry and their consumers;
• Diverse perspectives on business;
• Public policy & regulatory environments;
• Financial literacy and demonstrated business acumen.

 The Advisory Group members will be appointed for a renewable term of up to three years.  Members will serve without remuneration but will be reimbursed for appropriate travel expenses incurred in performing their duties, according to rates established for the Business Practices & Consumer Protection Authority. Unless otherwise scheduled, meetings will be held as required on a quarterly basis in Burnaby or Victoria.

 
SELECTION: Expressions of interest from which the Board will make its selections will be reviewed to ensure that the membership criteria are met.  The Board may make direct appointments, as required, when the necessary knowledge, skills, and abilities have not been identified through this process.
