Criminal Record Check Update for Licensees Print E-mail

{April 19, 2010} VICTORIA, BC - Further to the information update released on December 8, 2009 regarding changes to our licensing and criminal record check policy, Consumer Protection BC is pleased to announce it has re-obtained the ability to perform criminal record checks internally for new and renewing licensing applicants.

This change means that applicants will be not be required to obtain, pay for and submit a criminal record check performed by their local police agency (RCMP, regional or municipal departments) but rather submit a consent for disclosure of criminal record information form to Consumer Protection BC which will then be used to obtain verification of criminal record information.

Applicants who have had a previous criminal conviction will continue to be required to submit a Statutory Declaration of a Criminal Record to determine their licensing eligibility.

Consumer Protection BC extends its appreciation and thanks to all applicants who were impacted by the interim changes to the procedures.
