{February 17, 2006} VICTORIA – The Business Practices and Consumer Protection Authority (BPCPA) is pleased to announce a new appointment to its Board of Directors. As of April 1, 2006, Ms. Della Smith has been appointed to a 3-year term ending March 31, 2009. Ms. Smith brings to the Board extensive experience in the communications field. She is a partner in QUAY Strategies Inc., a communications firm specializing in strategic planning, crisis and issues management and corporate communications. “The Board welcomes Ms. Smith, an award-winning communicator,” said Board Chair, Frank Barr. “Ms. Smith brings a key set of skills in the areas of communications and public relations. As a past President of the Better Business Bureau of the Lower Mainland, Ms. Smith represents a good balance between consumer and industry perspectives.” The BPCPA is responsible for consumer protection in British Columbia and administers the Business Practices and Consumer Protection Act and the Cremation, Interment and Funeral Services Act to support a fair marketplace for BC consumers and businesses. A not-for-profit organization independent from government, the BPCPA is governed by a Board of Directors. The Board is chaired by Mr. Frank Barr and includes Mr. Hal Yacowar as a director. |
