The BPCPA Welcomes New Board Members Print E-mail

{May 28, 2007} - VICTORIA, BC – The Business Practices and Consumer Protection Authority (BPCPA) is pleased to announce the appointment of two new members to the Board of Directors.

 Mr. J.W. Brad Bond is President of Barrier Management Inc. a private consulting firm that works with medium sized companies to enhance their long term value.  Mr. Bond was also Chief Executive Officer of Pharmasave Drugs (National) Ltd. for nine years.  While with Pharmasave, he directed the re-positioning of the company, doubled the number of franchises across Canada and tripled sales to reach almost $1 billion.  His Board experience includes being the past Chairman of Rx Canada, a managed care organization in Toronto, past Director of the Insurance Corporation of British Columbia.  He was the Vice Chair of the Fraser Health Authority and has held the position of Chair of the audit committee in all of these companies.  The BPCPA is pleased to add Mr. Bond’s competencies in promoting growth and building stakeholder relationships to the expertise of the Board of Directors.

Mr. Philip Hochstein is the President of the Independent Contractors and Businesses Association of BC and has been actively involved in public policy analysis and development for many years.  As a member of Homeowner Protection Office Provincial Advisory Committee and BC Safety Systems Development Advisory Committee, he has developed a deep understanding of regulatory roles and consumer protection mandates.   Mr. Hochstein serves on the Board of the SHARE Family and Community Services Society, the Residential Construction Industry Training Organization and chairs the 2010 Construction Leaders Taskforce.  His vast small business knowledge and experience developing strategic partnerships are a welcome addition to the BPCPA Board.

“The Board underwent an extensive recruitment process and welcomes the new appointments,” said Board Chair Frank Barr.  “We look forward to working with Mr. Bond and Mr. Hochstein. We are confident that their experience and knowledge will be an asset to the Board of Directors.”   Both new members began their three year term on May 1, 2007.

The Business Practices and Consumer Protection Authority promotes a fair marketplace for consumers and businesses. It was established in 2004 as a not-for-profit corporation to strengthen consumer protection in B.C.
