{January 15, 2013} VICTORIA, BC - Consumer Protection BC is participating in today's launch of the Better Business Bureau's Top Ten Scams brochure. The Top Ten Scams are divided up into nine major categories with the top scam highlighted in each, plus the Scam of the Year.

The following list, themed “just in case a scam is around the corner,” is developed jointly by the BBB, British Columbia Securities Commission, Consumer Protection BC, the Competition Bureau of Canada, the RCMP and the Vehicle Sales Authority. In no specific order, here are the Top Ten Scams to be on the lookout for in 2013:

1. Advertising Trolls
2. Online Romance Scams
3. Internet Investment Fraud
4. Affinity Fraud
5. Curbers
6. Rogue Door to Door Contractors
7. Computer Virus Fixing Scheme
8. Twisted Text Prizes
9. Pretender Invoices
10. BBB Fake Complaint Email
