{November 29, 2011} VICTORIA, BC – Consumer Protection BC is pleased to announce the Minister’s appointment of Deborah Kim Lovett, Q.C., to the Board of Directors. By legislation, the Consumer Protection BC Board may consist of up to nine directors including one director who may be appointed by the Minister of Public Safety and Solicitor General. Deborah established the law firm of Lovett Westmacott in 1997, after practicing for many years as a litigator in the Ministry of Attorney General's Administrative and Constitutional Law Section. She was appointed Queen's Counsel in 1999. She practices in the fields of administrative, constitutional and human rights law and acts for and advises public bodies on these issues. She has extensive tribunal as well as judicial review and appellate litigation experience, having appeared at all levels of court, including the Supreme Court of Canada. She also acts as a neutral, providing investigation services primarily in the area of workplace disputes and discrimination and harassment complaints and has written extensively on administrative law and human rights. “We are very pleased with the appointment of Deborah,” said Board Chair Frank Barr. “We look forward to working with her and we are confident that her experience and knowledge will be an asset to the organization.” Deborah began her three year term on November 23, 2011.
