In British Columbia, anyone who is trying to collect a debt must follow the proper debt collection practices within the Business Practices and Consumer Protection Act. In addition, third party collectors (those collecting debts on behalf of the original creditor), bailiffs, and debt poolers are required to be licensed by Consumer Protection BC. If you are a currently licensed business or a business wishing to become licensed in the province of BC, you can find information about application requirements and procedures in the Help For Businesses section of this website. |
