The Business Practices and Consumer Protection Act

BC travel agencies and travel wholesalers are licensed under the authority of the Business Practices and Consumer Protection Act. The Act prohibits unfair practices, sets out the requirements for certain consumer contracts and provides licensing requirements for certain regulated businesses. The Act protects consumers by standardizing contract terms, clarifying cancellation rights and ensuring that penalties for infractions are applied consistently across industries. The Act also addresses new areas of consumer law, like internet sales, to harmonize with other Canadian jurisdictions.
