Debt Collection Exam Study Guide - Download

Business Practices and Consumer Protection Act and the Debt Collection Industry Regulation allow us to ensure compliance by requiring an applicant for a debt collection employee licence (“licence”) to demonstrate a basic knowledge of the debt collection legislation prior to being considered for a licence.

The following are some highlights in respect of this new policy:

1. Existing licensed collectors will have their licenses renewed for 2011 but must successfully take the exam sometime during 2011 to have their licences renewed for 2012;
2. All persons applying for their first BC debt collector licence after January 1, 2011 must successfully take the exam and submit proof before their applications will be considered by the director;
3. There is no cost to take the exam;
4. The exam is offered online in a multiple choice and true/false format;
5. A study guide has been prepared to assist persons to learn the necessary legislation.  The guide can be viewed and printed from the website.
