The movie classifications (a.k.a ratings) with the “A” attached to them are often misunderstood by movie-goers.  Of the six classification categories in British Columbia, two of them require Adult Accompaniment (14A and 18A).

As my little cousin’s birthday is coming up, I wanted to take her to the movies.  If you have kids, you are probably aware that there is a new animated movie about Easter that has been released called “Hop”.  The movie seems geared towards children, it looks pretty cute and I’m sure I’ll get few good laughs out of it as well (not to mention that I love animations and Disney films).

Ever wonder how movies get those ratings like “G” or “PG”?  Did you know that the “ratings” are actually called classifications?

Consumer Protection BC is responsible for a variety of areas involving motion pictures in the province.  Not only do we license theatres, video retailers and distributors but we classify films that you see in the theatre here in British Columbia.  What does that mean?  Well, we rate films (i.e. PG) so that you can make more informed viewing choices for you and your family.
