Dining Out and Sustainable Seafood
Written by Michelle
Are you planning a romantic dinner out on Valentine’s Day? What do you consider when making your dining decisions? Location, price, their inspection reports, consumer reviews, their commitment to local ingredients? One of our staff members recently found out about the Ocean Wise program. If eating somewhere that supports sustainable seafood, you may want to find out more about this program.
According to the website, Ocean Wise is a Vancouver Aquarium conservation program developed to educate and empower consumers about the issues surrounding sustainable seafood. Ocean Wise provides up to date information to numerous partners about which types of seafood are currently considered sustainable. They work in direct partnership not only with restaurants, but with any retailer that sells seafood including markets, caterers, and food suppliers.
So how do you know which restaurants support Ocean Wise? All you need to do is look for the Ocean Wise symbol on the menu to ensure your meal is supporting sustainable oceans. To make things even easier, here is a link to a list of Ocean Wise restaurants.
In Victoria there are currently 31 restaurants which support sustainable seafood. What’s your favourite Ocean Wise restaurant? Share it with us on our Facebook Page!
