The President and CEO is responsible for the overall management of Consumer Protection BC's services and programs, and is accountable to the Board of Directors.

One of the CEO's major responsibilities is implementing BC's new consumer protection statutes and creating a seamless transition from government to the new operating structure. Ultimately, the CEO is accountable for ensuring that consumer protection and industry regulation are managed to reflect today's approaches and operating environment.

The CEO holds appointed officers accountable for the day-to-day operations of Consumer Protection BC.

Mr. Scott McBride is the President and CEO (as of September 7, 2010)

Mr. McBride is known as a versatile leader and strategist with a record of outstanding customer service and employee engagement results.  His extensive experience includes owning his own management consulting firm and holding various management positions for the BC Automobile Association (BCAA) and the Bank of Montreal. 

As Senior Vice President and Chief Operating Officer for BCAA, he was responsible for all operating areas including the BCAA Insurance Corporation and Agency, 28 stores, call centres, and the Customer Management, Marketing and Membership divisions.  His key responsibilities focused on strategic planning, revenue and profitability, product and customer management, employee development, and sustainability.   Throughout his career and volunteer work, he has demonstrated his ability to balance stakeholder interest at a high level.

A graduate of the University of British Columbia MBA program with a focus on marketing and finance, Mr. McBride is recognized by his peers and his staff as an inspirational leader with strong analytical and communication skills.  While with BCAA, he led the company to record levels of membership and employee engagement.    He has a proven ability to marshal resources and meet goals in the public, private and not-for-profit sectors.  His collaborative leadership style at BCAA also contributed to 4 consecutive placements in the 50 Best Employers in Canada.
